DUBAI DESERT CLASSIC

Great to see the new Golf season underway at last.
And good to see those Brits such as Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Paul Casey and Rory McIlroy coming out with guns firing. I haven't seen much sign of any frenchies on top of the leaderboards though :-(
The Dubia Desert Classic has just started today and defending champion Rory McIlroy is one of six leaders after day one. The Northern Ireland player lies four under par, along with Jeev Milkha Singh, Stephen Dodd, Edoardo Molinari, Charl Schwartzel and Alexander Noren. Paul Casey is one behind with Alvaro Quiros (two massively long drivers of the ball).

GOLF JOKE #13

A very bad golfer is playing at new course and he is having a very bad day.
He is on the 18th hole, and he see's a lake.

He says to his caddy "I think I'm going to go drown myself in that lake".

The caddy says.........
" I don't think you can, you can't keep your head down that long" !!

GOLF RULES QUIZ QUESTION #4

Okay folks here is another Golf Quiz Question for you on the rules of golf.

And this time it is topical for winter.

QN: While addressing your ball on the putting green, you notice that there is casual water in your line.
Can you mop up or brush away the water before putting ??

Answer: No you cannot touch your line of putt (Rule 16-1a/1). You may however take relief under rule 25-1b(iii).

Another cold day....

Another cold weekend has passed - at least I managed to practise both Saturday and Sunday - but it was with hat, gloves and scarf !!

Anyway, I thought I would just let you have a view of Cromer Golf Club - on Christmas Day (spoil sports!!).

GOLF RULES QUIZ QUESTION #03

Well it has been a long time since I have been looking at the Golf Rules, but here is another question for you folks:

Q. In a Strokeplay competition, my playing partner is faced with a blind shot. He places a tee on the ground to indicate his line of play and leaves it there while making his stroke.
What is the ruling ?

A. Two-stroke Penalty (Rule 8-2a)

Happy New Year

Hello everyone.

Christmas in England was great (always is when I get lots of presents) but due to the snow and cold it meant that Cromer Golf Club was closed.

Anyway, I went for a walk with my Dad along the cliffs and next to the course and was lucky enough to find a PRO V1, so came away with something good.

Anyway, I am really looking forward to 2010 - I just want some warmer weather now so we can start playing again.

A happy and healthy new year to all  !!!

HAPPY CHRISTMAS

HO HO HO MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE

Turkey, christmas pudding and jelly for me this year with Christmas in England - a game of golf looks doubtful as last I heard the course was under a few inches of snow.

I'll post some photos if I can as well as letting you know what golfing goodies Santa gives me !!

See you next year !

Lance.

DETECTION POUCETS - SUCCESS

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!

ahhh, je suis trés content.

Aujourd'hui mon pro Joel ma dit que j'ai eu mon detection et je suis sélectionner. Fantastique.

All I can say is roll on 2010. It will be a great year for GOLF.

TIGER... HOW GOOD WAS HE ??

No, I am not saying that the Tiger Woods era is over.

I was just asking my Dad yesterday however, how can kids such as me can compare themselves to Tiger at the same age.

What my dad found on the internet was the following for Tiger:

"Handicaps of 2 at age 11, scratch at age 13, a feat that not many golfers attain in a life time"

Wow, just look at that statistic again.
HANDICAP OF TWO (2) AT THE AGE OF 11 YEARS OLD.

How the hell am I going to achieve that ? I have not even got my white flag (drapeau blanc) yet !!
Looks like I need to get myself an action plan, after all, I'll be 8 yrs old next year.

DETECTION POUCETS

Hi Folks,
Well I spent all day at the INESIS PARK Golf Club doing what they call here a "detection".
Basically these are golf trials to try and find talent in young golfers in the region as early as possible.
There were loads of us kids all between 7 and 9 years old competing for 15 places.
Those of us lucky enough to be chosen will be monitored throughout the whole year and given extra coaching.....
Oh I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much want to be picked.I do, I do, I do.
I thought the day went well and I played some good golf.
Well I should know by Wednesday whether I am in or out.

Last week of school before the Christmas Holidays. Yippee !!

SWING SEQUENCE.....

Well this is just a quick return to my archives from my holiday in Souillac in October as the weather is way to horrible to take photos at the moment. So this is a bit of me - a swing in motion.
Next year I'll try and get a video of me up and running on this site.

TOP TIP: REHEARSE IMPACT

My dad gave me a great GOLF TIP today at the driving range.

No matter what type of shot you're attempting, you need to hit the ball solidly. Your hands should always be ahead of the ball at impact. To ingrain this move, pose in the proper impact position, remembering how it feels, and then try to repeat it when you swing.

It certainly worked for my dad today.

Happy practising.

WESTWOOD WINS IN DUBAI

Just a short message to say a big congratulations to LEE WESTWOOD who won the final event of the Race to Dubai and topped the European Order of Merit.

He played fantastic golf under great pressure from Rory McIlroy who is only 20 years old (could be me in 13 years !!).
Just look at the size of that bloody trophy (it is bigger than me !!)

HOW TO PLAY BUNKER SHOTS

Whilst I was on our GOLF holiday my Dad gave me a few tips on escaping from those greenside bunkers. Here in the photos you can see me play one of my shots that finished just a few metres from the pin.

Basically for this shot you have to grind your heels into the sand and set up your feet pointing to the left (for a right-hander) of where you are aiming your shot.

Keep your feet close together and at a 45 degree angle and position the ball near the middle of your stance. The ball should be about on line with your left heel, and near the middle or front of your right foot.

The sand wedge, obviously, is the clearest choice for a sand shot. Dad tells me bunker shots of over 20 yards should be attempted with a pitching wedge or 9 iron, and further shots should be attempted with longer irons, depending on the length of your shot. You could generally knock off about 20-25% of the distance on your clubs when hitting from the sand.

When swinging at a ball in the sand, open your club the same degree as your feet, like you are hitting a lob shot or a flop shot. Open your club around 45 degrees and practice your swing without hitting the sand (as this is usually a penalty stroke). Aim between 2 inches and six inches behind the ball on your swing, depending on the length of your shot.

The shorter you are shooting, the farther behind the ball you should aim. Take an open club swing between three quarters and full, and be sure not to slow your swing through the zone or on your follow through. It will feel at first as if you are swinging too hard for such a short shot, but your results will soon tell the truth, just like me in this shot.

Good luck.

Joel Bernard - Bondues Golf Coach

Well just today I was surfing the internet with my Dad and we found the GOLF BLOG of Joel Bernard.
Joel just happens to be one of our fantastic golf coaches at Bondues Golf Club. If you ever need some lessons and you are in the Lille area of France, I recommend you contact him.

This is a picture of him for those who don't know him.

What I like about his website is the page which shows the weblinks to comparisons of his favourite GOLF SWINGS.
I would like to see the same sort of video showing my swing compared to that of Tiger Woods so I can compare myself and see how far I have to go.
Maybe if I ask Joel nicely he'll record my swing for me and do the comparison (?).
